Mental Health
Our Care
Mental health issues can be debilitating and have a significant impact on your daily life. One in four people in the UK have problems with mental health in their lifetime.
Without treatment or support a mental illness can become a catalyst for a variety of medical complications and can lead to extended periods of hospitalisation.
Mental illness is defined as a condition that causes serious disorder in an individual’s behaviour or thinking. It covers a broad range of illnesses such as depression, anxiety, schizophrenia, anorexia, and obsessive-compulsive disorder. Just like other illnesses a mental illness can vary in severity, and responds to, and requires, tailored treatment.
It is different in everyone and there are many differing causes; some are inherited genetically, while others are brought on by lifestyle or events. Other health issues such as suffering from another illness, a head injury or thyroid problems are also associated with the development of certain mental health issues, like depression.
We help with the day-to-day things such as medication management, housework, preparing and cooking meals, washing, support with social activities along with friendship and emotional encouragement.
Importantly, we are always looking ahead, making plans with you that look to future activity and events.
Each mental illness manifests itself in a different way. Symptoms can include withdrawing from others and social situations, erratic mood swings, low mood, and a change in sleeping pattern. We undertake risk assessments, listening to our users, to ensure we provide the tailored support needed.
Suffering from a mental illness doesn’t have to stop you, or a loved one, continuing to live the lifestyle you want. With the right support, those suffering with their mental health can live fulfilling independent lives where there is a future to look forward to.
